💢Is it for the Road or Track?💢
The motorcycle in question is the current Yamaha R6.
I have been fortunate enough to have ridden the R6 in its natural environment on the track, and now I have had the pleasure of road riding our demonstrator. It’s a motorcycle that is so good out of the box at the track with a fantastic free reviving engine that will keep delivering power through to the limiter at 17,000 RPM. Slipper clutch and silky smooth gearbox coupled with a quick shifter and a chassis that is razor sharp, even the ABS system works at track pace and doesn’t kick in prematurely as found with some earlier generations of ABS.
So how does this translate to the road?
You could be fooled into thinking that the R6 is too aggressive for the road, however that is not the feeling I experienced myself. I was suitably impressed by the way the whole package worked out on the road, the engine surprised me as to how well it developed useful power from low RPM; considering it’s an engine designed to be run at very high RPM. Then there’s that razor sharp chassis that is so at home on the track yet still compliant enough to be used in the real world of our New Zealand roads.
So to answer the question of; ‘Is the R6 for the Road or Track?’
I feel it is a motorcycle that is perfect for those who want a bike to ride every weekend around our beautiful country, with the option of taking it to track days and ending up with one of the most capable track bikes on the market. I urge anyone who thinks that the R6 is the motorcycle for them, come in and take it out for a demo ride.
